I AM NOT BEING LAZY
Thought I should say that.
Anywho, I noticed that I haven't been putting up any school artwork. And that I do feel bad for, since I'm asking for donations and for people to buy commissions with no evidence that I've been working.
I do feel that I owe some people and explanation, so here it is.
I used to have a steady job working as a comic artist for a private party. The project name was Legends of Wind and you can find the pages I did for it here: Legends of Wind
Recently, the party that was paying me moved and as such did not have the budget to pay me, so the project was dropped like a hot potato. I had been counting on that job to help me pay rent, as my expenses far exceeded my income and any money I make immediately goes to bills and cost of living. So I had no buffer with which to rely on. I was picked up by someone else, but he has recently run into some difficulty, and I would never pressure him to pay me more as he is a close friend and the fact that he hired me on out of the kindness of his heart. The college town where I work is small, and quite literally you cannot get a job unless you have a car and can commute to the next town over which is a thirty minute drive (maybe an hour if you obey the speed limit). Like maybe 80% of the students here I don't have a car, and the school encourages the students not to bring one to keep the air pollution down as we live in a farming community (and other obvious over-crowding issues) Not to mention having a car would cost more than I could make to keep it.
Recently I applied to a job at Warner Brothers in a concept design position, but in knowing how many portfolios they are likely to get, it may be well into December before they hire anyone, so I cannot rely on that. Not to mention my portfolio and resume are quite paltry and sparse, so it isn't likely to be picked.
Running to family really isn't an option, as I know some of you will suggest it. They are NOT in a position to help me and I would not force them to go into more debt for my sake if there are things I can do to improve my situation. Not to mention everyone is freaking out about my grandmother being in the hospital due to a heart murmur. This is the wife of the grandfather I lost about... two years ago? And she's been the stitching that's bridged the country and kept our family together. She cares more about family than anyone else I know, and I really don't know what'll happen once she isn't in everyone's lives anymore (as that is an eventual event, she is not likely to live to be over 100 XD).
Anyway, I've tried opening up for commissions and applying to jobs in the forums, but that really doesn't do much, apparently my regular prices are too expensive and my art is never QUITE the direction people want to go with, so I'll have to review those. Which is how I came to the decision of the Sales event. Everyone likes a sale, and when the price is 80% off, who could resist?
You all have been more than generous and I and overfilled with gratefulness for your help and support, your kind words, concern and well wishes. It's very presumptuous and annoying of me I suppose, but if you could continue to help in spreading the word around, I'd be most grateful. At the present time, I am almost at 50% of my rent goal.
Anyway, this is what I'm working on. For some context I am writing a 130 page illustrated book (aimed at family, not really age-specific). I am actually planning on submitting this book to a publishing company or independently publish if I need to. It's something I am very fond of and I love the story that's coming out. It's dedicated to some very special people, so it's something I have to finish. And lucky for me, completing the book dummy is part of class, so not only do I have people to push me to finish, but I actually feel like I'm working towards a goal.
And yes, this is one of the reasons that I will only be working on the $3 commissions on Fridays. And with the number of them (at the moment I have 113 to finish) it will take me, PROBABLY till the end of the year to finish, BUT THEY WILL GET FINISHED. And they'll all be done in livestream so you can see me work on them. Seriously, livestreaming not only helps with my work ethic, but it provides a bit of social interaction that I really wouldn't get otherwise. Last night alone at least 27 different people showed up to hang out and watch. I feel very honored and indebted to all of you. Thank you again for your support. I will do my utmost best to not disappoint.
Characters and story belong to me. Text is mussed out because I don't want to give anything away.
