I am still surprised at the chest, and I am not new.
Lovely work otherwise. I really like her curly bangs. Her right hand seems a little larger than her left hand to me though, which should probably be reversed since it's further back in perspective. Just a tip or two. C:
Oh no doubt. It looks amazing, as does all of Yoko's work. That is undisputed: her art is lovely.
But even if it is just a sketch - it is still a commission. I understand that Yoko's churning them out like crazy and I am sure that she is doing her absolute best with each and every one of them, but there's always room for improvement and in this case the hands were just something that really stuck out to me as 'off' about the image. If it were re-sized (I'm not telling her to redraw it or that it doesn't look 'fine', just that I think that it would look better if it was a little smaller) it would probably look a little less "masculine" is all. As it it is now, her right hand looks sort of manly to me while her left hand looks feminine and dainty. This is just one of those 'quick fix' kind of things that could really make a piece stronger. That's all.
Critiques are meant to be helpful, not destructive. Especially since I also complemented her about something I really liked about the piece; her hair. I also really like the flow of the skirt and those expressive eyes/her facial expression. It's really a good illustration otherwise, and I'm not saying that it's not.
But thanks for making me feel attacked while I was really just trying to be helpful? It wasn't even that big of a critique.
Haha... wow did not see this till now because someone faved the piece. I believe I did resize the hand as per your suggestion (at least the refined sketch hand is smaller than the rough sketch. But yah, totally valid suggestion since it was indeed off. It's hard to remember to sit back and zoom out when you're doing 12 a day and trying to tell yourself not to care and make it absolutely perfect because that would take longer than is really appropriate.
